Outdoor Research Reinvents the Lightweight Shelter Category with New Bivvys Gear News

Sleep under the stars with Outdoor Research's most technically advanced shelter systems, built with thru-hikers, backpackers and ultralight alpinists in mind.

Bivy Bags are lighter than a tent, simple to pitch and pack, and they enable you to sleep virtually anywhere – so what are you waiting for? Concerned about lack of livable space and breathability? No problem, Outdoor Research's new Interstellar Bivy tackles these issues head on with a remarkable multi-way design that blurs the line between apparel and shelter. The Interstellar Bivy allows you to sit up inside the bag, hands-free to organise gear and head fully protected by an integrated sombrero. It's an exceptionally breathable and pack-friendly shelter thanks to the proprietary 3-layer AscentShell™fabric, which offers a higher-performing blend of air permeability, breathability and superior stretch in a waterproof package, and helps more effectively manage condensation.

For something a little more conventional by design - but in the same fabric - try the Stargazer Bivy. As the name implies - the Stargazer Bivy has a huge U-shaped opening that not only makes it far easier to get in and out of than traditional bivy openings, it allows for an expansive view (while still staying protected behind bug mesh) when weather conditions allow.

title says 5, text in the post says 3 new line(s) but there only appear to be two products. Or am I missing something ?

Thanks Doug, I'll check with them.

What I can say for sure is that the Interstellar is great. I'm reviewing one at the moment and I love the 'sombrero' feature

Hi Doug, I've spoken with OR and the confusion over numbers comes from new/updated styles. There are 3 new bivvys: the Interstellar and Stargazers ‘AscentShell' bivvys, which are/will be available in the UK and the Helium Emergency bivvy which isn't available.

In addition there are two updated bivvys: the Alpine and the Helium. I've removed the '5' from the title to make it less confusing. That's definitely the most I've ever written "bivvys" - is that even the correct plural of "bivvy" or it is it "bivvies"!?

Biveez, innit

Thanks, nice to know that the spreadsheet I was struggling with this morning hasn't completely addled my brain
