I fancy one of these towards the end of the week...

Which is the best crack for some night time solo ice bants? Most continuous/interesting? How do the falls compare in height/number between the two?

Any other ideas around Longdendale (have done Wilderness Gullies)?

The main fall on Shining is harder and longer than the main fall on Wildboar, and takes quite a lot longer to come into condition. Both have several smaller pitches that are much easier but still fun. The easy bit of Wildboar goes on for longer but the easy bit on Shining is more sustained. Haven't done it but the pitch on Middle Black Clough is supposed to be good (steep but short). Torside Gully is a fun turfy thing (rarely ices), there is often a good icefall in the middle of Shining Clough crag itself, plus some bits and pieces on Lawrence Edge. I keep looking at Oaken Clough but haven't found it in proper nick yet.

Wildboar has the easiest walk in and out, especially if you park at Torside (Peak Park pay and display though), it's about 15 mins longer from the parking at the end of the dam. It's fully climbable more often then Shining Clough as it can take a while for the main fall to touch down in SC.

The broad gully inbetween Phoenix and Pisa buttresses on Shining Clough crag itself can be good,as Iain says, and so can the chimney left of the Big Wall , see photos in the logbook.

Thanks both. Probably going for Wildboar Clough given proximity to parking. Can Torside Clough be descended easily and with interest or is it probably best to stick to the Pennine Way on the return?

Torside Clough is quite fun to descend, although it almost never freezes properly and will just be clambering over snow covered boulders - if you're in the dark though the PW would probably be better. You could easily add Torside Gully in if you're going down that area.

Issue Clough on Black Hill might be interesting. I estimate the waterfall to be about 8 m.

Had a look up on Sat night. Only the main pitch was iced  (2 smaller ones just powder on rock) - not sure it was worth the 3 hour round trip in the dark and a late finish! Couple of others been up too by the looks of it.

It's always worth getting out! The southern cloughs on Kinder were well iced on sunday - probably still are, as it was only +2 at 400m this morning.

Suprisingly good ice in Shining Clough this morning, main fall was very wet but doable, not for me alone solo though, upper sections very good. Wildboar main pitch was still there but hacked to death and thawing rapidly.
