I was in Scotland this last weekend and conditions for climbing and walking in the hills were very challenging.  I know every year we get the "Go. no go conversation" thread.  I think it is very important to be as informed as possible, read all the mountain guide blogs there are is some excellent information on the MWIS site on the Outdoor Links section.  The guides are out most days and their local knowledge is invaluable, the pictures they post also give a very good idea of what to expect.
