Hi All,

wondering if anyone has experience of using the Rab Valiance for Scottish winter climbing. My old ME primaloft belay jacket is pretty shagged out and not very warm thesedays.  I’m tepmted by the possibility of a hydro-down/waterproof membrane jacket option being warmer and lighter.

Anyone tried them out in Scottish winter?

On a nice day, it’s probably going to be fine. But when the weather is really poor and you really need a big belay jacket, it’s going to end up as a soggy mess. Much better to get a beefy primaloft so that when you really need weatherproof insulation you’ve got the right layer to put on. I used the new Rab Photon for about 30 days last winter and was really impressed with it.
