Heading out to Arabba for skiing next week, but am taking along the ice climbing gear.

The best source of information on ice climbing in that area seems to be https://www.casa-alfredino.co.uk/ice-climbing-val-pettorina/

I have read on this forum that the Serrai di Sottoguda, Val Pettorina gorge was subject to a major landslide in 2019 and has been out of bounds. Does anyone know if the situation has changed since.

Does anyone else have further information or recommendations of other areas not too far from Arabba? Looking for routes WI3 to 4.

TIA

Hi Canadian dry. If you look at http://wildpettorina.com/ you will find an updated version of what's on my Casa Alfredino site. It includes a new gorge which I have pioneered in Val Pettorina, plus info about other areas. Arabba doesn't have ice within the village so you're left with going round to Val Pettorina or Alta Badia or a longer drive. In Alta bahia there are some classics like Onda Su Onda, but quite a few are 4+ or 5. Moe could be worth a look, or if you want a high mountain experience Paparoga on Torre Coldai on the foot of Civetta is a great experience, as is Hypercoldai at 4+.

The Serrai is still officially out of bounds but I ducked under the fence in Feb and access is very easy now. But some of the lines seemed very dry this year, for example Excalibur was very thin. We did cascata attraversare, and saw people on del sole. Cathedrale was mostly there and will probably in better condition by now. I didn't go into my canyon this year but as long as you can get past the first falls which is often still running, it usually is pretty reliable. PM me if you need anything else...
