Does Schmoolz still exist?

Ahoy hoy,

I am looking for indoor training ice axes and remember a few years ago that Schmoolz made them. The only ones I can find now are made by Furnace. Are there any alternatives available?

Mantis tools are great, feel a lot more like a real axe.

How about removing the picks from your ice tools and looping tape or cord through the mounting holes? ( I'm making assumptions, I know )

Thanks for the link Pat. They are proper expensive in comparison to the Furnace ones but look good.

Those are quite something... and some price too!  Suggests fitting a purpose designed pick cover to a real axe could be a way forward.

Krukonogi make an "indoor trainner", basically a wooden handle, depends on what sort of training you want to do. Just be aware that many climbing walls don't allow them to be used. However if you are anywhere near rope race in Marple, they have a dedicated tool room and also a number of routes up where you can use your normal axes. They also run social dry tooling events where new routes are set and you can climb in a non competitive atmosphere. The first this year is next Saturday (15th Feb)

Edit, just checked your profile,I suggest moving from Hampshire!
