My eldest is 9 and is a keen uke player looking to transfer to guitar so he will be getting some lessons.

I've got him a 3/4 size Yamaha steel strung for Xmas but I would like a book to go with it.

Although I have been playing for 30 odd years I've never had a lesson, nor really a book that I really got on with.

Ideally the book would cover the basic chord theory stuff, stretching out to scales and finger-style techniques. Probably interested in a tab based approach since classical is for wimps.

Any suggestions?

Goliath Guitar is a good route. A mix of books and YouTube videos. I found it really helpful and others agree.
