Evening all,

I'm looking for some free and very simple to use DVD ripping software. I previously used WinXDVD but since reinstalling everything ages ago, I haven't managed to get it to work recently.

In short I'm just looking for something that would convert say, a 90 minute film to a 700mb Avi file or similar, in a relative quick time. I'm only going to be watching them on my phone in the van so am not after excellent quality or owt.

Does anyone know any free software that does that quickly and easily.

I tried Handbrake but couldn't get to grips with it. I ended up with a massive file of terrible quality that took ages to burn.

P.S. Forgot to mention, it would be on either Windows 8 or Linux Mate, either is good.

Cheers

Frank

Handbrake is the gold standard.

Yeah, I just cant figure how to use it easily. I should explain, I'm far from savvy on these things

In reply to Frankie boy:

Handbrake won't rip commercial DVDs, as they have DRM protection.

You can, apparently, paste in a little bit of code copied from a dvd player that will get around drm. There may well be instructions on the Internet somewhere.

Recommend "MakeMKV" - Straightforward - e.g. either RIP as direct ISO or to MP4

After spending a bit of time playing with it, Ive managed to work out how to get Handbrake to do similar to what I did with WinXDVD.

It actually seems to work ok. Just took me a while to get my head round it.

DeCSS / libdvdcss since 1999
