I'm looking for a new top/hoodie/baselayer... I have a very particular set of wants...

Must have:

- hood

- zipped (full length or 1/4)

- built-in mittens (or at least thumb-loops)

Nice to have:

- thin enough to run in and wear on it's own directly on skin

- or, thick enough to be the only thing you take out on an all day hike in summer to wear under a waterproof on the off-chance the weather takes a turn.

PS: I just bought a Nike Sphere top which fulfils nearly all these requirements except it doesn't have a hood, but the stitching has come undone within 3 wears on the mittens so I'm going to return it. Love to hear some recommendations! For context this is a top I'd plan to take on the Welsh 3000s later this year, in the height of summer, and ideally would be able to take just this top and a waterproof, as well as whatever my first layer is (t-shirt or something), maybe take a thin down jacket as well if this is more of a thin baselayer thing.

I recently bought one of these;

Not used it masses yet, but build quality seems great and it ticks most of your boxes (for £25!)

I've got a hooded baselayer from Icebreaker that sounds exactly like what you're after. No mittens but does have thumb loops. Excellent piece of kit

Patagonia Cap 4 Hoodie, think it's now called Expedition Weight.

Mountain Equipment eclipse. That should tick all those boxes.

This sort of thing comes and goes in outdoor fashion...

ME still have the Eclipse, now with asymmetric zip. Most manufacturers have something similar.

I have some nice MEC T3 hoodies in very lightweight PowerDry, but they're obsolete, sadly, as they are excellent.

ps. Very much recommend taking a lightweight windproof, eg something Pertex, to make a very versatile layering system. For 150g or less, it will be more comfortable than wearing a waterproof over the top.

For a slightly left field suggestion:

I picked up a Blacks own brand hoodie last year, in a nice grid fleece with smooth face, and decent design, apart from poor pocket design (3 layers of self fabric). I'm going to guess the OEX is the same fabric, but, by the obvious overlocked seams, it looks like the pocket design is better.

Second this. Used the same one for 8 years. Still going strong.

Montane primino hoody?

Thanks everyone these all look great, I think from them all the Montane Primino looks closet to what I was imaging - but I was really hoping for one with a built in mitten like the Nike Sphere, because I thought perhaps then I could not have to pack both a hat and gloves to save weight / space.

Also available from Montane is the Allez Micro Hoodie. It's very light but surprisingly warm.

I spotted one of these on the sale rail tonight. Very long arms, but only size S, and I'm a Decathlon medium.

Quite a lightweight fabric, took me a while to figure out it is a merino mix.
