Best climbing film for a date...

It's 10 years to the day that I had the first date with my other half. The first date being a climbing trip to Almscliff followed by a pint and packet of crisps at the Hunter's Inn.

I'd like to commemorate the occasion with her by a climbing trip and a pint but for obvious reasons that's off the cards. I'm considering a bouldering traverse of the house followed by some bottles of Black Sheep but as an addition/back-up I'd quite like to have a climbing film to watch.

Any recommendations?

Bonus points if they include Yorkshire Grit but not at the expense of the film being a bit shit.

Blocheads is good, involves some Yorkshire grit too, not especially romantic mind you?

Searching for Christmas Tree is a good laugh too.

Cliffhanger. It's one of Stallone's finest works. Convincingly realistic depictions of what climbing is all about.

Looks good!

What's not romantic about Yorkshire grit? Should I mention the Brontes?

Too much of a documentary, I was thinking of something with a good story, like Hard Grit.

Free Solo.

Lots in that about beautiful functioning relationships with climbers.

Five days one summer ? (not much gritstone admittedly)

The Road from Karakol ( vimeo.com/69045994) is always at the top of my recommendation list and I reckon it'd work brilliantly for this occasion. (Only downside is that there isn't the largest amount of climbing in it).

To make up for that, just throw in this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHyJUR6C7a4&ab_channel=IanBurtonFilmmak...) as the short before the main feature.

We watched that already. She actually said I was quite like Alex Honnold, apart from my climbing ability.

it starts with scenes filmed at Almscliff ....

In reply to MeMeMe:

It's not a hardcore film about climbing i.e someone repeatedly trying something hard then succeeding on the last day of the trip.

But I think valley uprising is a great film. It's a nostalgic look back at the history of yosemite climbing. Might help you guys to start reminiscing

that or any of the reel rock tour films. They are generally very high quality.

edit: or Dawn Wall if you've not seen it

Dawn Wall is much more romantic, about the ups and downs of Tommy Caldwell!

I'd go Old School with either Century on the Crags, Lakeland Rock or maybe even Chris Bonington Moutaineer!

Sorry no Almscliff

Storms by Alistair Lee.

Re-watched it yesterday for the first time in 15 years and found it amusing if dated.

Storms is possibly the greatest climbing film ever made, but probably isn't.

The Eiger Sanction. Some good lines from George Kennedy. Although to be honest my wife would rather watch The Sound of Music for the nth time.

Sorta falls under the documentary side of climbing films, but Mrs. Wing loved Valley Uprising.

Thanks all!
We had pizza and beer, watched Jack Geldard at Almscliff then had an early night!

We’re going to pick something to watch tonight with the kids though so all your suggestions weren’t wasted.

Just watched first 30 seconds and it looks ace, and I shall watch tonight, thank you.

Or The Beckoning Silence. Better than Touching The Void IMHO

Hmmm....that would explain my dating success 😂

The one about the 24hr climbing comp/festival/party in the states.

No one takes themselves seriously, all climbing for the joy of it. Very refreshing.

I forget the name, it was part of the reel Rock thing a few years ago.

Or the Kentucky ice climbing film, gone tomorrow. Again very refreshing for a climbing film.
