Brilliant!! Perfectly sums up the pain and misery that we masochists willingly put ourselves through at every opportunity. The knee and the back sections really resonated with this 60+ year old.

An enjoyable read, had me smiling in agreement at many points. Particularly like the bit about jackets - so true!

Great piece, Anne. But what a shame you're not a fan of snow. Some of my most memorable Munro days have been in winter ... bluebird days on perfect snow above a frozen Loch Ossian ... that attempt at a winter traverse of An Teallach ... the spring day on the south Glen Shiel ridge ... snow camping near Ben Alder after a lift down the lochside track in a JCB bucket. All this while wearing Paramo, of course.

Great article - even if it does remind me that I still can't go to Scotland.

Many thanks
