I'm thinking of getting a USB power pack for use on the hill, for recharging camera / phone / headtorch. I guess it should be compact, rugged and light. I'd be grateful for suggestions.

Cheers

Anker is your best bet.

Just bang that into Amazon and Bosh, you're done.

+1 Anker. Pick your size then keep an eye on pricespy and wait for a good deal.

I agree Anker is the way to go. Avoid cheap rubbish from China.  I have an older version of this.

I also have a Hermit shell case for it to live in and a short Anker USB to micro USB cable.  Again buy an Anker cable, not a cheap one.  Your phone will likely charge in a third of the time and it shouldn't break a week after you receive it, as far too many of the cheap ones do.

Thanks for that - so it's Anker then!

I've got one of these RavPower units that also comes with an AC socket:

Bit big for the hill, but useful for base-camp.

You realise Anker is "cheap rubbish from China"?

To the OP: In my experience, Anker products give out as soon as they get a bit cold/damp. Goal Zero stuff is far better in my practical experience.

These 3-in-1 USB cables are really useful as well.

Anker: I've had a few of their small cylindrical battery packs for a long while now: been great, no issues.
