Heading up to Yorkshire Moors to stay with my parents this week. Was hoping if the weather is ok to get a couple of days of climbing in, are there any access issues for any of the bouldering on the moors at the moment? Specifically Duck Boulders but around that area.

It’s on a grouse moor, so they may be out shooting. They are supposed to put a notice up if they close the moor. It can be a bit unnerving with all the gunfire. As for other venues Clemmits is still banned I think.

Thanks, good to know. Might have a look at Duck and see if there's any gunfire (!!!) and if there is go to Ravenswick instead.

You can always check for grouse shooting closures on the Natural England Open Access Maps. Its always worth doing this to avoid disappointment before any grouse moor outing that involves going off the marked footpaths.

Sound advice from "Webbo" and Paul. The significant area of Clemmits remains banned although there is a small area on Open Access Land. There are moves to make progress but it seems it's not high on the Estate's priorities. It is true that land owners should put up notices to inform of permitted temporary closures, but on areas with literally miles of linear access to Open Access Land such as along Blakey Ridge it is worth checking as Paul suggests, on Natural England's Open Access Maps which will provide the appropriate detail of local restrictions and temporary closures.
