Climbing Wet Rock

I have noticed quite a few ranty threads about climbing wet rock recently.

Is this the new "winter climbers wreck crags" debate, and should we add it to the calendar every autumn so that dummies can be spat on an annual basis as with its forefather?

Trash the resource. Go ahead. Planet's doomed anyway.

I've only seen such rants about sandstone crags.  maybenot in that manner, but the word does need to spread regarding care for our rock. This comes as it's getting more popular for people to start in gyms and progress outside without necessarily understanding etiquette and good code of conduct.

I certainly didn't understand the different rock types and whatnot when I first climbed!

No point going over all of this again so soon, people can just read the bigger thread:

I think you may have missed my point.

Fashions change but people love to be indignant.

My personal preference is comaini g about the complainers.

Fashions change but the future generations won't be interested in sandstone anyway, so why not f*ck it while we can?

In reply to Presley Whippet:

It's got little to do with fashion, and much more about what we now know and knew less well in the past. The rock is a resource we need to look after and in some cases climbing on wet rock is highy damaging (all soft sandstone) and is always a problem to some extent (polish due to dirty feet).

'is always a problem to some extent'

I don't think that's really true for lakes mountain rock

I prefer to complain about those complaining about the complainers.

Nice one.

There are quite a few routes that I have climbed in the dry, in the wet (often in big boots or trainers} and in winter conditions.

I am so bad.
