My Pod rucksack has gone everywhere with me for ten years but is now expiring.  I use it for walks in,  loaded with climbing gear but never for camping trips.  Is anything remotely as good these days?  Beauty of it is there's nothing superfluous;  the waist belt and straps have just enough padding, the back length has just enough adjustment.  There's no fancy bottom compartment.  The  fabric is tough as are the clasps.  The nearest I could come up with was Osprey Rook 65.  Any opinions?

Have a look at Atom Packs. Made in Keswick to order. they are really great packs and the VX21 material is super hard-wearing. Nice and simple but with useful features.

I could sell you my Crux AK47x which is along the same lines as POD products i.e. simple and tough as old boots. It's  previous model therefore even tougher and has seen some use but is not appreciably worn in any respect. Let me know if it might be of interest will you? mart10ben@gmail.com

Another shout for Aiguille Alpine. Bombproof, simple and light. Have also got a smallish Blue Ice Warthog - the older model, super little sack.

I had exactly the same problem after my trusty Pod Black Ice gave up the ghost earlier in the year.

After much hunting around I've just opted for one of these:

Looked at Aiguille because they're very Pod-like, but they're not light & thought it was time for something a little less old school.  Also looked at Crux 3G AK47, but again it's 3kg heavier than the Mountain Hardware sack.

Replaced my 20 year+ Pod with a Black Diamond Creek. Basic and clearly bombproof, recommended.

Probably out of price range but the Cactus packs are incredibly strong, well made, and heavier than the lightweight alternatives.

Personally I use a Blue Ice Warthog 40 (the old one) which was about a quarter of the price of the Cactus pack from sportpursuit for 40-50l, and have a giant Arcteryx Bora 85 for long expeditions - although it is a bit fiddly and strappy.
