If you do use poles for ultra runs / long distance walking do you carry 1 or 2 poles?

Ive used poles in the past and am thinking of purchasing new, but wondering whether I actually need 2.

Thanks.

I always use two - when it's a steep uphill you can really push on, I could probably do with one down hill.

In reply to The Potato:

Agreed, I use 2 on uphills and being spectacularly uncoordinated cannot use two on down hills so either use one then or none at all

Get some lessons from a cross country skier, or YouTube on how to use poles effectively. You see so many people just taking their poles for a walk and they provide little benefit. They need to be the right height etc.. a rough guide, max of 0.83 x your height in cm for skiing , minus 10cm for walking / powering up hills.

Always use two on the uphill when running longer events.

If out a day walking or winter climbing I tend to use one on the descent.
