Position: Customer Service and Administration Manager

Location: Teesside
Permanent: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £25-28,000 p.a.

Ultralight Outdoor Gear is a growing retailer of outdoor clothing and equipment for backpacking, trekking, adventure racing and adventure travel based on Teesside. The company evolved out of a passion for backpacking and a love of the outdoors with the idea to bring the best lightweight kit together under one virtual ‘roof’.

We are currently recruiting a Customer Service and Administration Manager to join our team based in the North East of England. There is a dual focus within this role encompassing the customer service functions and also business administration.

The customer service element oversees all aspects of the customer service experience including our showroom. The business administration element includes maintenance of financial records, managing the building and ensuring compliance with legal requirements.

This position is a part of the senior management team reporting to the Chief Operating Officer.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Managing the customer service and showroom team
  • Implementing customer service processes to ensure high levels of service
  • Maintaining financial records for the business
  • Building maintenance
  • Health and safety
  • Regulatory compliance

The successful candidate must have: 

Essential Requirements:

  • Articulate with excellent written and oral skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Willingness to learn
  • Extremely organised with a high attention to detail
  • Patience and an empathy with customer’s needs
  • Experience of managing people
  • IT literate including Excel spreadsheets
  • Working knowledge of outdoor clothing and equipment technologies
  • Knowledge and passion for the outdoors and the outdoors industry
  • GSCE equivalent in Maths and English

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience within a mail order business
  • Familiar with business accounting and budgeting processes
  • Experience of recruiting and training staff
  • Managing a customer service team
  • Use of customer relationship software
  • Management within a retail environment
  • Keen backpacker
  • Knowledge of health and safety
