We are planning to do the Breithorn half traverse and maybe PolluxCastor next weekend, staying in the Ottorino Mezzalama & Guide d'Ayas huts.  Can anyone help with a couple of questions?

What are the current conditions and has anyone done it recently?

The huts will be closed but do you know what the equipment is like in the wnter rooms?
Do they have gas, pots. water blankets ? The web sites don't give any information.

Many thanks

A post on gulliver.it (using google translate) will probably get you the hut info

We did Castor and Pollux on Thurs/Fri last week.

Castor via the normal route from the west. It's a little icy (we took 4 ice screws) and be careful of crevasses up on the face, my partner half fell into one.

Pollux via the ridge was fine and good fun.

Some others were doing Breithorn traverse, from what I heard it was in good condition

I did the full traverse of the Breithorn two weeks ago. I stayed in the bivvy hut which is equipped with mattresses and blankets. The second half of the traverse was in great condition. However, I noticed that those who were joining the half traverse had some difficulty getting over a large crevasse.
