Hi folks,

On the look out for a 2 person 3 season tent.

Preferences include sub 3kg less is better and sub £400

I will be using it for everything from a week on the Hebrides to back backing to car camping. I quite like the look of the MSR Hbba Hubba NX but can't decide if I would prefer a bigger porch, as sometimes that would be really useful.

I have also come across this https://www.bigagnes.com/Copper-Hotel-HV-UL-2 anyone know anything about Big Agnes tents?

Stu has an MSR Hubba Hubba that looks quite good, and I think should fit your price point.

Although if you can find a second hand Hilleberg (Only tent manufacturer I’d consider second hand) I’d have a good look at that. I’ve got an Akto and the materials and build quality are second to none. A good 2 man would be the Nallo 2.

Cheers Trist,

Yeah I like the look of Hillberg stuff, they tick all the boxes except for price!

Haha yeah I know.... I got my Akto off a well known auction site for a very good price. Some of their tents are truelly eye watering.... but I genuinely reckon they would last a good deal longer than most other stuff.

I went through the Hilleberg denial stage too. I went through several inferior products (from reputable manufacturers) before deciding that I could afford a Hilleberg. Haven't looked back.

How about a Vango Banshee 300?

Gets good reviews and about £150 -£180

We reviewed a selection of 2-person 3-season tents last year:

https://www.ukhillwalking.com/gear/camping/tents+bivvys/2-person_3-season_t...

The basic gist - as I'm sure you know - is that there is no one perfect tent, since they're all a compromise of various factors (weight/spaciousness/toughness/ventilation/weatherproofness/cost/porch design etc etc).

To state the obvious, for a week in the Hebrides you may be glad of a very windproof design, while for car camping something larger and maybe less high-end would usually be good.

From the range we reviewed above the Sierra Leone II or the Limelight 2P would be my top picks for car camping.

For more serious 3 (even 4) season mountain use it'd be a choice of the Access 2, Minaret or t20 Trail.

For gram counting lightweight backpacking trips, in summer, I'd probably favour the Mira 2 though it is a bit of a specialist investment.

All this said, the Hubba Hubba NX is a really good tent at the price, and strikes what for many people will be a balance of weight, spaciousness and 2/3 season weather performance that's hard to better at this sort of outlay. We reviewed it some years back:

Whilst some may say a bit low budget I think the wild country Trisar 2 tent is very good:

https://www.terra-nova.co.uk/tents-and-spares/all-tents/trisar-2-tent/

They are reasonably lightweight (2.7kg) but well constructed, rigid and quite bombproof.  We use them for Gold DofE and they are just as happy wild camping as being on a campsite.
