I have a variety of insulated jackets for work and play, some just for emergencies, a dodgy Nepalese knock-off for hanging about campsites etc but when I'm working in the mountains in cold snowy winters there is one jacket that I use time and again for standing around. Paramo Torres. It goes over everything, is weather proof, and I think It must be made out of magic unicorn hair cos it seems to just block out the cold. Totally. I have the old smock version, but they've updated it to a jacket these days.
As someone else said, don't forget your legs. #loveyourthighs! If you have four layers on top but only one or two on your legs, your core will be cold. Running tights paired with thermals, then trousers or fat salopettes will keep you warm.
