hey,

im looking for some tasty veggie or vegan expedition meals. since going meat free I've struggled to find the right combo.

either dry or wet food.

when i was eating meat i used cous cous and look what we found meals, that worked really well

all suggestions welcome!

I'm not vegetarian but I've had this as emergency food before, it's OK.  https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/284862725?sc_cmp=ppc*GHS+-+G...

If you can carry the extra weight fresh pasta and a tub of cheese sauce is nicer but won't keep long out of the fridge in hot weather.

Generally on expeditions for breakfast I have porridge with peanut butter and some chocolate. Snacks are flapjacks/various bars and dried fruit. Dinner is cous cous/potato mash/noodles/stuffing with some vegan cheese and a protein bar for dessert (Clif builders). If it's a shorter trip where I don't mind cooking so much I'll take some lentils and make dal.

I worked it out and for about 500g of food a day it's almost 70g of protein and about 2000kcals which works well for me. I can send you a more detailed chart if you're interested

For "just add hot water", I love Quinoa flakes (steamed, or whatever is the proper term). Like them a lot more than cous cous.

Also Miso (fermented soy) cubes or paste for seasoning. Nothing worse than bland food

And try home drying - cheese, veggies, whatever.

Have a look at these – https://tentmeals.co.uk/

I took a few on an exped last year. Ridiculously filling and super easy.

One warning: They make the wind blow

Huel - I use cacao powder and cinnamon for flavour. Quite low in calorific density (400cal / 100g) so I top up with nuts and dates. Very easy and if you have water sources you don't need a stove.

Another vote for Firepot, they do a vegan range and a gluten-free one.

I recommend the Dahl rice and spinach.

Hope that helps

I'm veggie and for the last year or so have been buying from this company: https://basecampfood.com/  based in Derbyshire.  They've got an excellent selection (including the brands listed above) and I've found their service to be excellent.  Recommended.

I'm currently into the Lyo range of meals and they seem good

For dehydrated stuff, I've used both Be Well ( https://www.bewellexpeditionfoods.com/Main-Meals/ )  and Expedition Foods ( https://expeditionfoods.com/collections/vegetarian ) and think that both of them do great food (I've mainly eaten them when I'm cold and tired, so my standards may have been lowered, but my recollection is that they were pretty good   )

Another vote here for Firepot. They're the best dehydrated meals I've used. Real food, no additives, super tasty. They do vege and gluten free options, though my fave is posh pork and beans!! C-:
