Interesting and depressing article, although the authors identify some qualified grounds for hope:

Aye, it's happening. Global warfare without a weapon in sight. Lunatics running the asylum. I'm upgrading my tinfoil hat to a lead helmet at the very least. And I've got my fingers in my ears and my eyes closed. Someone please turn it off and on again. (Although maybe I'm not too sure about the "on again" bit).

Distracts us all from the B word, at least, today of all days. Stay safe out there.

It is an 'interesting' subject. If we are not already at the point where fake CG photos and video cannot be detected then we soon will be.

It means you can either believe anything or believe nothing based on this kind of evidence. Either way it leads to locked-in thinking.

By coincidence this came up in my Twitter feed (via Charles Arthur):

I guess solutions will be found, they may be technological, social and political, often only partial, and the transitional phase will be messy.  As ever...

I want secure indexed lifelogging.  So it can tell me where I put everything.

Good idea. (But imagine having to live with that...).

I have secure indexed lifelogging already.  But it's faulty.

Sorry, misattribution earlier - got that link about verification from John Harris's Twitter.

perhaps real film will make a legal comeback as it is more obvious when faked, ie the moon landings

like Peter F Hamilton's Commonwealth Saga?

In reply to wercat:

But the moon landings weren't faked and they weren't filmed either; they were televised.

Hasselblad cameras, film, exposed the sham Wot No Stars.

TV yes at the moment but film used for the proper pictures and for the ascent of the module to rendezvous with the CSM

Just to check: you are joking and don't really believe that stupid and easily refuted conspiracy, aren't you?
