Looking to replace an old Casio watch for timing legs in blizzard conditions. Not interested in altimeter. Just a good size with good buttons for gloves and can work in the dark.

Many thanks

Is there no-one out there with any recommendations please please....

I always used a basic Casio.

Stopwatch, alarm, light, time, all you need really.

I also liked to use the hour beep on alpine routes, a reminder to get on it.

I suppose bigger buttons are available on some models but I liked the simplicity of the basic one.

Another Casio for you?

I usually pace count or estimate distance rather than time navigation.

Hey freefall. I use this one for winter nav timing:

20 quid. The light is average but buttons work very well with big gloves on (which is what I got it for). I don't think strap will be long enough to wear over jacket sleeve but if planning on doing some gnarly winter nav then you'll probably prefer to wear it on rucksack strap anyway.

I haven't used one, but Decathlon seem to have a decent range of reasonably-priced watches that'll do what you need them to. I almost bought one to keep in my flying bag as a spare (because your watch dying mid-flight is a bit dull - makes navigation somewhat difficult), but never got round to it.

Thanks you may well be right.

Just wondered if there were different options but Casio do have it covered.

Cheers

Cheers another Casio fan....they do do the business.

I use a Timex  watch like this one:

Big buttons for glove friendly pressing, I especially like the big indiglo illuminator button on the front.

Keeps reasonable time (mine gains a few seconds a week as I'm sad enough to check it against the pips before R2 news in the morning).

Arguably bombproof too as I've failed to break mine climbing and general use over a couple of years now.

Baby G user here

thought the male version was far too big and bulky.

Gets heavily abused daily (i’m a tree surgeon), and stands up to it without issue.

I just find I have to take it off for crack climbs!

Likewise.

(And a good tip I learned elsewhere is to replace the plastic strap with an outsize velcro one so that you can wear the watch on your jacket sleeve, rather than on your wrist directly. Keeps it immediately visible (and usable), rather than having to locate it hidden under fleece, gloves, etc.)
