Of all of the climbing/mountaineering/walking clubs out there, which ones have membership criteria that are not related to climbing/mountaineering/hillwalking activity, ability or interest?

In reply to Allan Young:

Not quite 'Membership criteria' as such, but ...

Presumably gay climbing clubs. An example: "Not So Trad, Southern LGBT Climbers ...... welcome all gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender climbers and their friends." Does include friends.

I think there's Red Rope with socialist members, and can't remember the name but there's a Catholic club with hut in lakes I think.

Pinnacle Club? Though perhaps they allow male partners nowadays.

University clubs probably restricted to students and graduates.

Perhaps "not related to..... activity or interest" might exclude some of above. I imagine nowadays their theoretical and practical criteria may be broader.

I was interested in this so checked. The Achille Ratti Club has a Catholic ethos but welcomes members irrespective of belief - https://www.achille-ratti-climbing-club.co.uk/content/documents/ArccConsitu...

Red Rope welcomes "all Socialists" as members - https://www.redrope.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Red-Rope-Constitution...

Possibly this could be amplified by club members on this forum?

In reply to Allan Young:

As I understand it the Wayfarer's no longer require people to be male so that's off the list.

London Mountaineering Club require you to be resident in or work in the SE (or at least to have done so at some point) from what I recall.

FRCC used to (may still) have a policy about requiring members to have displayed a love of the lakes and also attended a couple of working parties (not unreasonable really, albeit not directly related to mountaineering interest/ ability).

I believe that baking tasty cakes makes a successful application to most clubs more likely, unless you  attempt to usurp a resident baker!
