  I have an Australian mate coming over for 3 weeks skiing, including off piste, in Europe (France) in January. Has anyone any ideas where he can get appropriate insurance, including off piste? Most companies seem to exclude non-EU residents.

I beleive the default option (for off-piste skiing) is Carre Neige. I didn't see anything there excluding non EC citizens.

? insurance to cover what hazards + consequences ?

Rescue?

Helicopter evacuation?

Emergency health care for bodily injury?

Long-term recovery?

Long-term rehabilitation?

Unexpected urgent re-patriation / travel to home country?

Assuming your friend is an Australian resident, surely an Australian insurance company, or at least one aimed at the Australian market would be the starting point. I appreciate that it is likely to be more expensive than cover for EU residents, but the same applies if we ski or climb outside of Europe.
