Looks too good to be true but just wondered if anybody's got any experience of them?  Checked Trustpilot but even then you never know who's posted reviews.

I haven't, but they list Paypal, Visa and Mastercard as payment methods, meaning no risk to you. if the stuff you order doesn't arrive or is fake etc your bank or credit card company will refund you. Just make sure to use a debit or credit card or Paypal - don't do a direct bank transfer because that isn't protected.

Thanks.  I had wondered about that. Never had to use credit card protection before, still a bit new to me.

Based overseas with no contact details either by way of a phone number or email address - just a 'contact us' form.

A whois search shows it to be anonymous.

Best avoided (imo).

Are you covered if you use a Debit Card ?

Lots of detail here:

Basically, yes but with some caveats.

In reply to Pedro:

Yes, if it was a complete scam website that just took your money and didn't deliver anything, debit cards would be covered. That MSE page that Luke90 linked to explains it well. Take note of the time limits.

Well I can click on the link down at the bottom on the left side under "imprint" and read:-

"Legal Notices

BFE Online Stores GmbH
Philip Reis Straße 44/1
69115 Heidelberg
Germany, Europe

Telephone: 0049-(0)-6221-672027-0
Fax: 0049-(0)-6221-672027-4

Email: service@backpacking-united.com

CEO: Sven Manuel Hagenmaier
COO: Oliver May
Owner: BFE Online Stores GmbH
VAT: DE 290861430

listed in the commercial register of the local court Mannheim
Commercial register number - Part B of the commercial register - 717838"

And then look at the company details using a credit rating company and see the owners took over an existing company in 2014, that they are a legitimate company and see their current financial and legal status.

Still I´m just an old guy who knows nothing about the internet

Not really in the "to good to be true" category though.

I used Backpacking United twice a couple of years ago. Bought a pair of Scarpas  because they were suspiciously cheap. They were absolutely fine, so I bought 3 more pairs. I'd use them again.
