I am after another recommendation. I desperately need to replace my walking boots which I have had for a number of years. Unfortunately, I have problem feet which makes boot buying difficult! Can anyone recommend a place to try on and buy boots where the staff are knowledgeable and experienced with awkward feet?! I am based in the north east. Many thanks.

Highly recommended and very well worth the drive if you don't live nearby (give them a call first to book):

Ah, thank you. Had heard they are good. Not averse to a trip to Lancashire.

They are very good - I'm happy to drive 3hrs (each way) from where I live to get them to sort out boots for me.

The Climbers Shop in Stony Stratford near Milton Keynes are very good and will spend as long as it takes to try to find a good fit. I know from experience how difficult it is to get a good fit for my low volume feet and the folk at The Climbers Shop completely understood this and are knowledgeable enough about the various brands to find the best fit for me. Takes time but time well spent!

Altberg make boots in (iirc) 5 width fittings, so they'd be a good place to start in finding boots that will fit your feet. They'll also customise boots (eg no "waterproof" lining) and make to measure. Whalley Outdoor sell them, so that'd be another reason for visiting them if there's no where nearer that sells them.

Another vote for altberg. You can go to the factory store in Richmond for a proper fitting.  Best to make an appointment first.

I was also very impressed with the staff at Outside in Hathersage and have heard good things about Foothills in Sheffield

Foothills Sheffield. More hiking than mountaineering but they have an excellent reputation for going the extra distance on fit.

Not too far from the NE and you can pre-book appointments. Mountainfeet in Marsden are excellent, plus you could make a day out with plenty to see / do in the nearby area.

Thank you to everyone for the recommendations. I visited Mountainfeet today and received excellent customer service. The owner was knowledgeable about problem feet and I am very happy with the boots I bought. Another recommendation for this place.
