Just returned from a trip to Belfast, at the George Best airport there was a lovely picture of a granite crag top with climbers on it.

Just wondering what route & crag it was?

Cheers

It's on Slieve Binnian North Top, I think the route is a VS but I'm not sure.

Thanks! It certainly opened my eyes to the possibility of climbing in the area - I thought Northern Ireland was just about Fair Head.

Is there a selected type guide to N.I. climbing?

Cheers

The Ireland select guide does a reasonable selection of the Mournes if you were going for one or two visits. Alternatively there is a comprehensive guide: http://www.bmcshop.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=6037

I'm biased having grown up there, but the Mournes are great. Some really immaculate granite, huge number of climbs across the grades, beautiful surroundings, nearly always quiet. Much more impressive than Dartmoor, more variety and ease of access than Arran.

The Mournes are well worth a visit. If you want some inspiration check out Craig Hiller's photos of the area. He has some great photos, winning the marmot photography awards this year with a photo from the mournes (https://www.ukclimbing.com/articles/digital_features/marmot_photography_awa...) plus coming runner up in 2012 with another one.

If you are planning a trip to Fairhead then get the ferry over to Dublin and the Mournes are on the way!

There's some great bouldering on Slieve Binnan and elsewhere in the Mournes. Here's lovely high slab, The Shield. Beautiful granite.  youtube.com/watch?v=9VwWYmWjxvo&
Well worth the long walk in. There's a very good guidebook to Bouldering in Ireland by David Flanaghan.
