Conditions and forecast latest; Wednesday 31st Jan-
Fresh cover to less than 100m today but very thin. Forecast cold for the week ahead so any mixed routes are likely to get better from here onward. Possible warm blip on the leading edge of occluded front coming through at some point Friday. Generally temps seem to be a degree or 2 down on BBC forecasts and lower once above the snow line.
The pre-existing snow cover is of little significance below 700m in most parts of the Cuillin (and much of Scotland from what I hear.)
Above 700m there is some exciting stuff. Cover varies from huge quantities built up in any recessed areas and ledges to a crest stripped on the narrower sections but with cols and gentler slopes well filled.
The excitement with a cold forecast is that ice is going to form very quickly because the heavy wet snowpack is going to provide the good slow drip feed required. A very similar situation to the fantastic winters of 2015 and 2016.
