I currently have a pair of Grivel G14 (cramp-o-matic) crampons which I use with my La Sportiva Trango Extremes. I also have a pair of La Sportiva Trango S but currently do not have any crampons that fit them. If I was to order one of the converter bails (link below) to switch the G14s to a new-matic binding system, would these be ok to use with my Trango S or would they still be too rigid?
I think Trango S are B2, mine are a bit bendy with a G12 on, suppose it might depend on size of boot, with a 7 they might be OK, with a 14 then i would say trouble may happen !
I expect you'll be fine. I've used my very elderly Trango S loads for ice climbing with G12s over the years (and lent them to friends as well for their first tries at ice https://www.ukhillwalking.com/images/dbpage.php?id=21983 ). From what I remember about G14 they are very similar to G12s.
Of course take advice from a random bloke on the internet with a large pinch of salt. Your crampons may explode or spontaneously combust. You may plummet horribly to your doom as a result of this advice. Share prices (and ice climbers) can fall as well as go up.
