Hi all, I am looking for insulated jacket for daily use(Scottish winters) and weekend walks. I am male 5'6" and I have tried ME and MH small sizes and they are usually loose for me. Modest water resistance would be preferable.

Budget is ~£200

Any advice pls.

Thnx

I'm a big fan of Alpkit stuff. There's the Phantac down or the Apogee synthetic jackets both at £160. Hydrophobic down and DWR treatments are pretty good but synthetic would give better piece of mind with respect to maintaining warmth in the wet.

The Apogee jacket is basically a Mountain Equipment Fitzroy clone, £60 cheaper.

How much insulation?

What sort of 'daily use'? Around town?

The ME Fitzroy is a wonderful technical jacket rated up to about 9 pints of medium strength ale at the pub. Anything more than that and I'd look at the hydro down options.

I will have a look at Alpkit. Are they as big as ME? I want slimmer fit than ME.

They'll be a slimmer fit I'd have thought. They have a size guide on the website as well.
