What happened to these? I was after a set for a while and still am but can't seem to find them anywhere.

More widely, if anyone has a set which never get any use I'd be interested in taking them off your hands...

I think Mike Kann knows the full story but there was an issue with the tooling iirc so production was stopped. Rumour mill says they’ll be back out on the market in 2018.

Just before we start worrying to much about the financials of Wild Country, remember there owned by "Oberalp". haven't bothered looking at there financials, will leave that to someone else!
BTW I was also looking to replace my depleted Rocks, guess I'll just have to wait

You may think they're niche but they are very popular. I was gutted to see mine fly past my belay and into see below Gogarth......

Fair dos- I don't see them on racks very often, possibly for the reasons described above!

They are a bit niche but when you need one nothing else will do. A friend has a set, and they have saved our bacon on thinly protected slabby routes numerous times. I have been trying and failing to get some for ages.

I might ring them tomorrow as the shop I work at stocks the SL offsets but not the normal SL rocks.

I always thought that we stock one and not the other because the offsets are more diverse, maybe the guys at WC are thinking the same.

So, they've had delays with production but the guy from WC said they should be back around April/May next year but double checking with the development team. Production has been on hold due to development of the Revo. They know that they are very popular

I was about to suggest that Superlight sizes 4,5&6 are the most useful as DMM Brass Offsets tend to work equally well as the smaller three sizes.

However that is actually a silly suggestion in terms of cost as they are even more expensive and actually make the Superlights seem almost reasonably priced!

(Although I do also have a spare set of them sitting around as well that I haven't decided whether I want to keep or not...)

They are silver soldered which is damned expensive to do. Much more so than crimping an aluminium ferrule which you can do day in day out with good consitancy.

I have a set of the offsets, they are great. Never used the straight ones, and not sure I can see an advantage as the off sets are still great for most narrow placements. Only disadvantage I can tell is for my second, as they can take some time to coax back out of the placement.
Why the straight ones? Please someone educate me.

They only overlap in 2 sizes so not really comparable? I absolutely love the superlight rocks (straight ones, size 1-6) and once placed 8 of them on a single pitch. I think they are a bit shallower than the equivilent size of DMM brass offset so really do go in some places nothing else will.

The superlight rocks have a single wire cable, silver soldered into the nut. They do a small silver, and a gold size that are not present in the superlight offset rocks. The rest of the superlight rocks are no better than the superlight offsets IMO (and are potentially worse - I don't use the rest).
So the gold and the silver little ones, have an offset side, and a 'half-normal nut' (really narrow 'rock curve') side. This half-width lets them act really well as 'keys' - where you put it into a horizontal slot, and rotate 90 degrees and it gets wedged in good (crucially it has a rectangular profile at this point - there is no left/right taper - this gives it really good stability). Normal offsets (the offset shape means that it can be difficult or not possible to find a good constriction in a horizontal crack) or normal don't have this ability exactly the same (to 'key' in a normal nut using a 90 degree turn requires a massive hole, and then a much smaller opening to the side, unlikely and potentially not as safe), and so can't be used in nearly-uniform horizontal cracks.

Secondly they have the ability to sit into normal small-gold and small-silver placements, as well as being used as small offsets. For this reason, and the unique 'keying' ability mentioned above - they are extremely useful as a second set of nuts.

I've got a Superlight Rock 4 lying around in a box of gear.

It's been places a few times, but is in great nick. Cable still intact.

Thanks Tom, it arrived today.

I have now got two full sets of 1-6 and can now use the #4 without worrying if it gets damaged.

The #4 is often the best fit, "gold plated " for a reason I guess
