I know there have been threads on this subject in the past, but I can't find anything under that title.

What was the consensus for washing smelly running shoes? Bicarbonate of soda salts don't seem to work, nor any normal detergents, Whenever they get wet the stink is appalling!

Suggestions for tackling this problem please? Otherwise it may have to be the bin

That would be a bit uncomfortable when running.

Running shoes and rock shoes smell. Just accept it! keep them somewhere the smell doesn't matter.

Try washing / soaking with one of the first two according to instructions.

Dry promptly, e.g. with a proper shoe dryer.

Use Sneaker balls between washes.

Wear socks all the time with trainers.

Out of the bag or out of the tray? (Even the latter would improve the rank stench that crawls out of my Five Ten pinks.)

Purchase new shoes.Continue cleaning shoes in the washing machine, use baking soda, and or the original Pine-Sol. The Pine-Sol will almost clearly do the job. Downy is worth a try, too. Vinegar may work, also. You can put dryer sheets in the shoes when not worn and the baking soda idea can be used depleted as you had tried with the baby powder. Leave them in the hot sun all day, which may be difficult depending on where you live. Don't judge to dry them out this way, however. Just dry wet shoes in the shade.

+1 for zaflora

another option which I use for my rather minging trail shoes is to pop them in the machine on a short 30 degree wash with Halo Sportwash (picked it up from Sainsbury's).

Not sure how antibacterial it really is, but its a great detergent for running kit, and does a great job on the inner soles, and the whole shoe if you clean them in the machine.

Storing them when fully dried with a tumble drier sheet tucked in them seems to do the trick for me.
