Needing some inspiration...

What races in what times should a good fell runner have on their palmares?

I'm thinking about the real classic races and the benchmark times to aim for like sub 4 hrs at Jura and sub 2 at the Ben. Obviously those benchmark times are not equally difficult but there's something attractive about a nice round number and some targets should be easier to achieve than others.

My other thoughts so far would be sub 4 at the 3 Peaks and under an hour at Glamaig.

You'll gather I'm not so clued up on races south of the border!

Sub 4 in 3 peaks I’d say is a good benchmark.

Sub 10 Old County Tops?

Sub 5 Wasdale
Sub 6 Ennerdale

Sub 60 is fine for Glamaig....if you do it in bare feet.......

Saw that this year. Bonkers.

I think Sub 4 at Jura is incomparable with sub 4 at the 3 peaks. In good weather sub 4 at the 3 peaks is pretty comfortable for many runners. Typically not many go sub 4 at Jura. I've ran about 3:15 at the 3 peaks and 3:42 or so at Jura.

I'd say sub 1:20 at Snowdon.

The one classic race I never got round to doing was Carnethy, twice registered, once broke my arm just before, the second time got food poisoning or something. Under the hour was always the aim but probably 1:05 as a classic target.

Sub hour at Carnethy 5 or a sub 32 min ( not quite as round number) at Tinto.

Hoka in under 10.

Maybe not a classic for some but a sub 3 at the Pentland Skyline race is my goal!

What Hoka? If the Highland Fling, it's no longer 'Hoka' and sub-10's not really comparable with some of the stiffer benchmarks proposed here. Sub-20 for the full West Highland Way is probably more in keeping with, say, sub-2 for the Ben, and I speak from experience as someone who did sub-10 Fling on his only attempt but never quite made a sub-20 WHW or sub-2 Ben despite multiple runnings of both.

Some good ideas here. Thanks.

Obviously we're not going to agree on all of them but that's what makes a horse race.

And the obvious ones no one has mentioned, although not races: Sub 24 for a Ramsay's Round, BG or Paddy Buckley!
