An organisation called Treetop Trek is applying to erect eight Zip Wires across Thirlmere Lake in the Lake District National Park . They have the backing of United Utilities who own the Valley and supply Manchester with water. UU is planning to lease them the land and share in the profits ... Thirlmere Valley is one of the quiet areas of the Lake District ... no long if this project is granted permission by the Nation Park Service .. who are quite likely to approve as they did with the Glenridding zip wire project that fortunately did not take place due to massive public protests .. All ready local apposition has taken place against this Thirlmere project but more overall support is needed from the likes of the BMC ,National Trust, FRCC etc... to date these organisations have kept their heads down .
