Dear UKC Contributors,

My climbing partner and I are planning a trip to the Nepal to climb a few 6000m/7000m-ers (Ama Dablam, Mera, Cholatse etc.) unguided. We have experience in the alps climbing technical terrain at altitude and therefore are just enquiring about insurance if something unforeseeable does happen.

From a brief initial search, it appears as if we are pretty uninsurable as we are going unguided and without a tour operator. I was wondering if anyone had been in a similar position and found an insurer that worked for them!

Any advice would be appreciated!

Cheers,

TJ

Not cheap but we have used BMC insurance - not had to use it which is good I guess.

Snowcard is excellent and will cover you fully on their top level extreme adventure policy for rescue costs of up to £10 million. I use it for exploratory caving and take it out for a year at a time.

Obviously you want to be unguided, but for the permit on the trekking peaks you have to employ a local guide, so as far as the insurance company knows, you have a guide?
