Hello, I work at a climbing centre and we have a large amount of climbing shoes that are no longer fit for service...

Does anyone have any suggestions that are better for the environment than throwing them in the bin!

I know our local wall often gives them away, some newbies might want them.

Surely the ones nobody wants can be recycled, they collect shoes in our areas in the council recycling?

University clubs will be keen to have their for their fresher members - don't know where you're based but if you can't find a good home for them, I'd be happy to see if my club were interested (and could cover postage).

I don't think even uni clubs would want shoes that even a climbing centre think are beyond use

Our scout group collects old shoes for the kids to borrow. We'd love them!

James Pearson and Caroline Cavialdini have a charity called Spot that welcomes old gear to help young climbers in developing countries. http://spotclimbers.com/en/ there's a link to click to donate gear on their website.
