We announced earlier in the year that we have managed to secure another arch at VauxWall and you may have seen the building work next door for quite a while now. We will start our own wall construction in there on 14th August.
In addition, The Lakeland Climbing Centre (LCC) is thrilled to announce it has signed an agreement to lease a 10,500 square foot Grade II Listed Hall in Kennington, South London. This will be an additional London wall for LCC, following on from the success of VauxWall. LCC is a sister company of The Yorkshire Climbing Company , which owns The Depot Walls in Leeds, Manchester and Nottingham and is currently building a new Centre in Birmingham . LCC is hoping to emulate the very high standards of build and operation of VauxWall and The Depot.
The new Centre, which will be branded as VauxWall East is a 15 minute walk from the current VauxWall site, and also a 10 minute walk from both Lambeth North and Kennington underground stations so even more accessible for those who travel on the Northern and Bakerloo lines. It is also a 15 minute walk from Waterloo and Waterloo East overground stations. Our existing VauxWall site will continue in situ with the new centre as VauxWall West with punch cards and memberships working at both centres so customers can choose either location.
Project Manager, Paul Cottee, said "with VauxWall's success and continued growth it was inevitable that we would need more space. The new arch will certainly help us but we wanted to offer our customers more so the next logical step was to find another site as close by as possible. VauxWall East will be 50% larger than VauxWall West. It is in a wonderful Grade II listed Assembly Hall at the Baylis Old School site. It has amazing character and provides a fabulous ambience for bouldering. We are hoping to start the build work imminently with a view to being open early in the New Year, if not before!”
