First Aid Course Recommendations

I'd like to go on a first aid course somewhere in the Peak District, to cover the basics for climbing, hill walking, mountain biking, scrambling etc in small groups. Most providers seem to cover the same ground with one or two day courses, and seem much of a muchness for price and content. Does anyone have any recommendations please?

The BMC are running a mountain medicine weekend in Hathersage 3/4 June. St. John's do courses for nominated first aiders on a regular basis all over the country.
... I've being doing the St. John's courses every couple of years through work. They've always been pretty good.

We did a BASP one last year and thought it was excellent. Probably 50% of the time was spent outside going through different casualty scenarios etc.

You got a real idea of how tricky it is to handle casualties that have ended up lying on slopes/grass/trees etc and also just how fast you cool down which emphasised just how important it is to get that shelter out and used sooner than later (we did the course in December).

Thanks. I'd looked at the BMC event but I wasn't sure it'd necessarily cover all the basics.

the ITC Level 5 (SQA) Outdoor First Aid course (or the QCA version by ITC) is always excellent, its is generally considered the Gold Standard for the Outdoor Education industry.

Look on www.itcfirst.org for a provider in your area.

Thanks for that link - I'd never heard of BASP and they run one really local to me!
