Controlling Tablet via smartphone.

In an attempt to keep the kids occupied on long holiday journeys I want to use the wife's Nexus to play films. It'll be attached to a headrest mount.

That's the easy bit. Should they fall asleep, or need a change of movie is there a way to use a smartphone to control the Nexus, or a way to show films from a smartphone onto the Nexus (plus volume control etc)?

I've done some Googling but like many Internet searches you need a very specific question to get the right answer, and I'm not sure what some of the solutions mean. Is it casting?

I realise we could just lean over but that seems inconvenient when travelling at speed.

All the devices are Android 5.0+ (Samsung phones).

Thanks

In reply to Stuart (aka brt):

if you are talking media (eg movies and music) then if you use something like kodi on the tablet you can use a kodi remote on the phone to control the kodi media player on the tablet from the smart phone.

In reply to rallymania:

Thanks. I'll give that a try.
