Hi folks
We were thinking of traversing Beinn Alligin tomorrow but looks like the weather might be better on Skye. Can anyone recommend something of a similar difficulty/length on Skye? What are the best winter walks? Want to get up above the snowline but my wife doesn't want anything too full on. Is there an easy-ish way up on to the ridge which would have good views and can be done as a circular round? I've a decent amount of experience generally but little knowledge of Skye apart from one trip up Sgurr Alasdair and Inn Pinn in summer. Thanks!

You could do a horseshoe of Garbh-bheinn (just north of Bla Bheinn). Nice ridges, not too scary (if you were already in a position to consider Alligin for instance, it's easier than that), fairly manageable length day, great views of the main ridge and Clach Glas/Bla Bheinn...

Try going up the nw ridge of bruach na frithe and down Fionn Coire, good views and an easy way off the ridge and a nice grade 1 on the way up.

Excellent objective but the NW ridge in winter might be intimidating for the nervous. Alternative is to approach from Sligachan via Coire a Bhasteir and descend by Fionn Coire.

Blabheinn by the tourist route is an obvious suggestion. Easy under snow. Fantastic summit views, rather better than Garbheinn for the seascapes. Possible to make a circular(ish) route if the scramble between summits is not intimidating.

Cheers folks. Had a look a Blabheinn and looks pretty stunning - think we'll give that a go if the weather holds. Any tips?

Two navigational hazards:

On leaving the car park above Loch Slapin, don't make the mistake of following quickly upstream on the left hand bank. Instead return to the road and cross the stream before following the well made path on the right hand (true left) bank of the stream.

On reaching the upper coire look carefully for the route heading up right and onto the ill-defined ridge at an improbable angle for a "tourist" path. Fortunately you can rejoin the ridge where it gets better defined by more devious means if you miss it.

It's a great outing and all the better if you can circumnavigate the coire via the south summit. Easy in summer and grade II under snow. Avoidable after attaining the main north summit by retracing footsteps.
