Height is only half the problem though. Rjukan is more exposed to warmer air from the Atlantic direction compared to more protected valleys in the central parts of the Southern half of Norway. The Rockfax statement that 'Rjukan is almost perfectly positioned for ice climbing' isn't strictly true based on the evidence of recent years.
