I dont know how much cover UKC has given to the decimation of healthy mature trees in Sheffield and the incredible dawn raid by the Police and Amey at 5am dragging residents out of their beds and arresting two pensioners who were peacefully protesting this . The issue isnt one of tree management or the removal of dangerous or diseased trees but the blanket destruction of healthy trees to allow Amey to maximise profits and minimise their maintenance obligations.
On the 7th of Jan a human chain is going to be formed by members of the public wearing Yellow to demonstrate the way the council and a private company are changing the character of sheffields streets forever.

On weds this week at 1pm there is a gathering outside the Town Hall to demonstrate the ill feeling towards the proposed felling of aproximately of 50% of the trees in a registered first world war memorial by Sheffield City Council and Amey . A petition raised 9000 signatures and has forced this item onto the Agenda. If anybody is in the area on weds pop along as a large crowd will further shame the council into stopping the current policy .
Also to note are the 30 or so trees along Rivelin Valley road, 100 year old lime trees and the second largest such avenue of this species in the UK which are set for the chop due to the unprofitable work Amey have agreed to do.
