Merry Christmas guys.

Not a snowflake in sight.....

Do you give a sh....?

This is bad IMHO, Zuckerberg uses the whole world to make a fast buck, and just before a 23-year old black woman, was shot to death by police in the United States, Facebook removed her online footage of the deadly encounter at the request of local police.

Can Zuckerberg be seen to be a champion for human rights?

FB has such power and ought to come clean about how it collaborates with law enforcement.

Lets hope Facebook can be more transparent and held accountable to the public. Otherwise, what hope really can possibly be left for the millions addicted to it.

Social media should help out law enforcement agencies. Don't be so anti establishment. tthat's not to say they shouldn't store and share that footage with a tribunal about the woman's death when it arises

Can you really not see a difference between 'helping law enforcement agencies' and 'protecting law enforcement agencies'? Don't be daft.

The situation isn't quite as clear as you make it seem.

A disturbed 23 year old has resisted arrest, barricaded herself into an apartment and was threatening police with a shotgun.
She had her 5 year old child with her.
'Contacts' on Facebook were strongly advising her NOT to comply with the police's request to peacefully surrender.

Part of any negotiation process in these circumstances is to remove contact with people that are being unhelpful or inflaming the situation. What should the police have done? Backed down?

Hopefully the video was still being captured even after the account was deactivated (an hour after the police request)

Sounds like you're forgetting that preprogrammed algorithms HAVE to be there. Think of the huge numbers of pictures uploaded to Facebook hourly. No company could monitor that manually. So programs do it for them. These are partly build around spotting patterns (like nappies!) and partly to react to reports from users. Maybe a couple of hours after a hefty number of reports Facebook spots the issue and starts looking at it.

By that time for many it's too late and Facebook are the villain but tighten it up with More manual interception and everyone bitch about nanny state.
They have to find a line.
