Snowpack, weak layer model

Nor sure if this is of interest, but quite education if you are into snow science:

A series of Images of an snowpack scan from the Swiss SLF which is 3d printed, scaled up. The large crystals in the middle are buried surface hoar with 'normal' snowpack top and bottom.

LOL, it would have been cheaper to do it in cauliflower. I'm hoping to do a series showing different snowpack variations but waiting on the data.

..... that you now need to add an electron microscope and 3D printer to you winter safety kit..

I guess it depends on at what stage you are in your understanding of snow-pack. Sometimes the theory makes sense, but a visual model can help put it into perspective so as an educational tool I think it can be helpful.
