Hello.

Back in August I did an extended version of the Derwent Watershed from Sheffield and back, and wrote an account of it on my blog here:

Thought it may be of interest to anyone looking at doing this classic Peak District walk and the mindset for the other big challenge walks.

Botion.

Great stuff!

I remember doing it a few years ago over 2 days with a bivvy near Bleaklow Stones. My then girlfriend picked me up at the end, and I had siezed up to the point that I almost had to be helped out of her car by the time we got to Manchester

Cheers!

It gets to the point where it becomes slightly tragic but at the same time quite funny when you are in that state doesn't it

I find stopping quite dangerous on long walks - a 20 minute rest is more than enough to trigger the transition from being good for another 10km to being unable to move.

Nice, inspiring article.

For those interested in another longer version ... Many years ago (c.2000) I did a 12-day walk - which I called 'The Peak Grand Tour' - starting and finishing in Derby (at Dolphin Inn, next to Cathedral) that followed the eastern Derwent watershed all the way to its source nr. Bleaklow and then came back on the west side, taking in Axe Edge, the Roaches etc. Staying most nights in pubs en route, but two nice bivvies - one in Robin Hood's Cave on Stanage, and another at Crowstones. It was very varied. and interesting most of the way, and of course took a lot of preplanning and recceing before I did it.

Here's the route. Zoomable map:

Two pics of crossing the source of the Derwent:
