"A spare map is worth carrying too?" No wonder hill walkers have massive rucsacs! Do you have a spare kitchen sink in case the one in the bothy is broken too? Who carries a map these days anyway? A Print out is all you need. The days of having to tack into the wind with a sheet of A1 are fortunately past, people use skis and kites these days.

I don't think there is any argument against the article providing good advice for a relative novice to winter walking. I do however agree with your post.
