NEWS: Killian Jornet's Aconcagua Speed Record Broken

Aconcagua, south face, 4 kbEcuadoran-Swiss mountain runner Karl Egloff has set a new record for the ascent and descent of Aconcagua, beating Spanish endurance athlete Kilian Jornet's two-month old record and finishing in under 12 hours for the same route.

Egloff's team reported on Facebook that he completed the 22,841ft ascent and descent in 11 hours 52 minutes, shaving almost an hour off Kilian's time of 12 hours and 49 minutes.

Just to be clear... so this is roughly 50 miles round trip even if you ignore the fact it's up a sodding great mountain... wow.

This says it is 60km, more like 37miles, which sounds a bit more sensible.

A bit more sensible!! The speed over that terrain let alone the altitude is chuffin' incredible! I had a look at the kit list on that blog link food and water was

•300cl energy gel
•1l water
•4 chocolate bars

For 13 hours running!
