I have an 18 hour road trip next week and I am after an audio book to make the journey pass by.
I just finished listening to Andrew Mar's History of the World and before that read the complete six books of Game of Thrones (Song of Ice and Fire).

Any recommendations?

Ken Follett's Pillars of the earth is good, but it's more like 50 hours

Yes I read the 'Pillars of the Earth' and 'World without End' and I really enjoyed them.

Good idea about the 'In our time' series but they only last an hour don't they? Not sure if my mind could concentrate on more than a few hours of philosophy whilst driving though.

If you enjoy Sherlock Holmes, but have exhausted the canon, then the audiobooks by Donald Thomas on Sherlock Holmes are good value. I'm just listening to "The Execution of Sherlock Holmes."

Also, try any of John Le Carre's, read by the aut6hor himself.

I'm sure i'll get groans for suggesting this... but Harry Potter is a classic. And Stephen Fry does a great job.

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

This suggestion is a bit different

It's a series of talks by Alan Watts on the Nature of Conciousness.
It's an insight/attitude towards life that is completely skipped by most
people living in the west.

I've linked it in 4 parts, each with 8 sub parts. You can download them to
mp3 using this: http://save-mp3.com/ so you can listen on the road.

It's well worth the effort, in fact it's completely changed my outlook on
human existence and life.

Hope you enjoy!
