Does anyone know anything about travel and climbibg in Antartica?
In reply to Henrycuillin: I think you can fly from south africa on a russian supply plane, or you could join the British Antarctic Survey!

In reply to Henrycuillin:

There is a few commercial companies arranging that stuff now to climb unclimbed peaks, entry to go at. Just Goodle it and you'll find them. Usually sail from Ushuaia .

In reply to Henrycuillin: The author of the definitive history of- and guide to- climbing in Antarctica is regular on UKC, Damo. But you might want to be a bit more specific as I guess he knows everything rather than anything!

Some good stuff on Scott's blog from his stint with BAS which might give you a few ideas?

Or neither, depends who you ask.

2 weeks on Vinson with ALE/ANI = US$40K
2 weeks on small peaks in Heritage Range with some FAs = $27K+
X weeks in Queen Maud Land with TAC/ALCI = $30K+?
30 days on yacht down the Peninsula, possible FAs = $15K+?
2 weeks with a few days off a ship on the Peninsula = $8K+?

Note the question marks - it varies depending on what you do.

I have no financial interest in any of the above companies.

In reply to Damo:

The numerous season reports on Dangerous Dave Hamilton's site give a decent idea of the scene at Vinson etc: http://www.highadventure.org.uk/antarctica-2008-2009.html and one interesting 2nd ascent of a big peak: http://www.highadventure.org.uk/vinson-ski-tour-2010.html

In reply to Big Jim The Climber: I was thinking about joining the British Antarctic Survey anyway!
